The Special Operations Association of America (SOAA) is deeply shaken by the recent attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. This appalling act of violence is not just an attack on an individual but a strike against the very core values that our nation holds dear: the peaceful expression of political disagreement and the preservation of democratic processes.
As members of the Special Operations community, we have witnessed firsthand the catastrophic effects of violent political protests in other countries. These actions destabilize governments, disrupt societies, and endanger the lives of innocent civilians. Our nation’s operators have shed blood and made tremendous sacrifices to protect freedom and democracy, both abroad and at home. It is heart-wrenching to see these principles undermined by acts of violence within our own borders.
“The attempted assassination of President Trump is a stark reminder of the fragility of our democratic process. It is a call to action for all Americans to come together, set aside differences, and reject violence in any form. Our democracy is strengthened when we engage in peaceful disagreement and constructive dialogue,” said Daniel Elkins, Founder and President of the SOAA.
In the wake of this tragic event, it is imperative that we, as a nation, unite against hostility and aggression. SOAA firmly condemns the attack and calls for a comprehensive investigation to identify and address the security failures that allowed this incident to occur. Accountability is crucial to ensuring such lapses do not happen again.
David Cook, Executive Director of the SOAA, emphasized, “Violence will always cause division. Today, in one of most politically charged environments in generations, we must toss aside the harmful rhetoric and deadly actions and galvanize our democratic processes ahead of the upcoming election. It is deeply disappointing for our Veterans to experience the destabilizing tactics we fought to prevent overseas be used here at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with President Trump, his family, and the victims of Saturday’s heinous attack.”
At SOAA, we believe that freedom and democracy are the pillars upon which our great nation is built. The sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform must not be in vain. We must honor their legacy by preserving the integrity of our democratic process and upholding the values that make our country strong.
This is a pivotal moment for our nation. We must rally together, not as partisans, but as Americans dedicated to the principles of freedom, justice, and peace. Let us remember that our strength lies in our ability to disagree peacefully and work collaboratively towards a better future for all.
