Back in July, we called attention to a major issue – Veterans dying by high suicide rates. In addition to passing the Commander Jon Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019, legislation that has significant improvements to mental healthcare for Veterans, we advocated for this study to include a stricter vetting process for researchers, as well as an oversight panel to limit biases for or against opioids and benzodiazepine.
Today, we are happy to announce that this legislation has passed! This means better mental health care for Veterans – for those who have sought treatment through the VA and those underserved who did not have access to such mental health care.
We’d like to thank Chairman Jerry Moran and The Honorable Jon Tester for standing up for passing this bill which will help get Operators the care and treatment that they need. This is a major step in the right direction to ensure that our Veterans receive the best mental health care.
